JournalofPrivateEnterpriseAnEducationalNoteonLocusofControlandPersonalityTypeintheFormationofStudents=AttitudesTowardEconomicInstitutionsAnthonyBarillaGeorgeSouthernUniversityDarrellParkerGeorgiaSouthernUniversityChrisPaulGeorgiaSouthernUniversityThereissubstantialandgrowingevidencethateconomicandpoliticalinstitutionsplayacentralroleindeterminingtherateofeconomicgrowthanddevelopment.Thedeterminantsofeconomicandpoliticalinstitutionsacrossculturesandgovernmentsislesswellunderstood,butareinparttheconsequenceofbeliefsandattitudestowardalternativeformsofeconomicorganization.Boulding(1969)suggeststhatthelinkbetweeneconomicandpoliticalattitudesandthesocialprocessisanimportanttopicforeconomiceducationresearch.Pro-marketattitudeshavebeenshowntoimpactsuccessintheprincipleseconomicscourse(BreedenandLephardt,2002).Researchonlocusofcontrolandpersonalitytypesasinfluencesintheformationofstudents=attitudestowardeconomicinstitutionsisconsistentwiththatresearchdirection.Specificallyaddressedinthisstudyistheroleofpersonalitytypeandlocusofcontrolintheformationofattitudestowardeconomicandpoliticalinstitutions.Themeasureofeconomicandpoliticalattitudesisobtainedfromresponsestotwopersonalitytests,theLocusofControlandMyers-Briggs.Theattitudestowardeconomicandpoliticalinstitutionswereobtainedfromresponsestoquestionsoneconomicconservatism.Theelicitedeconomicbeliefsarethencorrelatedwithself-reportedlocusofcontrolresponsesandself-reportedpersonalitytypes.The214surveyrespondentsconsisted
